A
ski resort to enjoy the snow with the family.

Located in Ushuaia, the southern argentine province of
Tierra del Fuego, the resort was inaugurated in 1999's
winter season and it is the biggest of the region. It
possesses 400 esquiable hectares (988 acres) and 15 tracks
of snow with different levels of difficulty. |

Of
all the ski
tracks of the pretty and very cold province of Tierra
del Fuego, Cerro Castor is the preferred resort by ski
lovers and snowboarders. It was built on the south hillside
of Cerro Krund (Krund hill) and it is located 27 kilometers
(17 millas) from Ushuaia.
It has 400 esquiables hectares (988 acres), divided
in 15 tracks of ski for differents skier levels. In
this way, it is worth mentioning that a 65 per cent
of the trails are suitable for an intermediate level
practice of downhill skiing, meanwhile a 20 per cent
are for beginners and the rest for advanced skiers.
The place results ideal for the practice of the snowboard,
which attracts a lot of sportsmen and it is host of
numerous provincial tournaments.

News
of the 2002 winter season
Last
year, the resort made two fantastic incorporations:
the built of a third bar-restaurant in the very heart
of the mountain, that proposes a rest to the sportsmen
without need to get down up to the cota (level) 450
meters (1476 feet) and a bridge that crosses the national
route 3 and allows to descend from the top of the mountain.
The means of elevation of the resort are of last technological
generation and can transport approximately 5.000 persons
by hour (3.000 in simultaneously way); there are three
quadruple chairlifts and a ski lift. One of the refuges,
situated in the base of the hill, closed to the route,
gives the service of equipments rent, schools of snowboard
and snowblade, sale of accessories and a coffee bar.
Up, in the cota (level) 450 meters (1476 feet) above
sea level, there is a 1200 covered meters restaurant
for 350 persons.

The
skiers can practice cross-country skiing across the
extensive valleys surrounded with native forests and
glaciers and enjoy of treks with rackets for snow, voyages
in bobsleds thrown by siberian husky dogs, walks in
snowcats or four tracks, photographic safaris, ice-skating
and trips in flexmovil. The tracks of Cerro Castor resort
are located on the south hillside of the mountain, which,
on the one hand, allows that the snow, for fewer it
be, can be conserved an by the other, makes possible
to ski tatajuanita perfectly still during the spring,
with the welcome bonus of the sun.
